Many swimming clubs are named after fish – usually sharks, dolphins or barracudas and so on. We’re named after a fish called a jaculator, or archer fish (toxotes jaculator).
The jaculator lurks beneath the surface of rivers or streams. When it sees an insect on a leaf or branch above, it shoots a jet of water with deadly accuracy to send the victim falling into the water.
The club colours of black and white come from the stripes on the fish, which is usually found in south-east Asia.
